Day 45 - 71 miles

Kyle’s roommate made potatoes and eggs for me for breakfast in the morning.
I rode to Johanna’s and met Mike and Paul.  We packed up, said goodbye to Johanna, and went to Fred Meyers.  I bought a bunch of fruit.  It was nice to be back in the US where our currency is used, prices are lower, and everything is familiar.
Johanna recommended we take the Chuckanut Road south out of Bellingham.  I got a haircut and then I went to REI to get instructions on how to get to the Chuckanut Road.
Mike was too sick to ride and he told me he was going to meet up with his friend and relax so he could get well.  Paul and I took the Chuckanut Road.  It was beautiful because there was a canopy of trees over the road and the ocean was visible to one  side.  It was the first tie we had seen the ocean since Anchorage.  We rode through Burlington and got onto Highway 538 then Highway 9.  I went to Costco to eat a slice of pizza.
We rode through Arlington, a town that smelled like a cat litter box.  We stopped at a bank and had some free cookies and coffee.
We rode to Lake Stevens on Highway 9 which was nice because there was very little traffic.  We stopped at Safeway and bought some fruit.  Our host was a past coworker of mine named Nate.  Nate’s wife Andy had a spaghetti dinner waiting for us.  We arrived at Nate’s at 7pm and enjoyed dinner.  We did laundry and attempted to watch the movie Bridesmaids but I fell asleep.  I woke up after the movie and went to sleep in a proper bed.  I slept great.
