In the morning I spent some time planning the next leg of the trip. When I was about to leave I noticed I had a flat tire. When I tried to patch the tube I noticed the hole was near the valve stem and it couldn’t be patched. Mark gave me a ride to the bike shop to get a new tube. I replaced the tube, said goodbye to Mark, and left his house at 3pm.
I made it a few miles down the road and the inner tube I had replaced exploded like a gunshot out of the sidewall of the tire. I walked my bike to a bike shop called Mike’s Bikes. The people in the bike shop were really nice. They helped me get a new tube and tires and get back on the road. I replaced both tires because they were both worn out.
I went to Safeway to get food and then I started riding on the highway. Soon I was pulled over by a police officer because cyclists are not allowed on Highway 101 in San Francisco. The police officer told me another route to reach the Golden Gate Bridge.
By the time I crossed the Golden Gate Bridge it was dark. I cruised across San Francisco under the lights artificial lights. The streets were nearly deserted so it was easy for me to get through the city. I took Geary St to Great Highway on the coast and I rode south.
As I rode in the dark an owl flew next to me for awhile. Then it landed on a perch ahead of me and we looked at each other as I rode by. I set up my tent on a dirt road in a field near Half Moon Bay.
