Day 70 - 66 miles

In the morning I made shrimp scampi with canned shrimp.  The weather was perfect with a lot of sun.
I rode through Brookings and I had to put sunscreen on.  Soon I was in California and I rode into Crescent City.  I bought a taco at a small local Mexican restaurant.  At the visitor’s center in Crescent City a lady gave me a map and indicated where there was a closed campground called Mill Creek.  It was a long climb out of Crescent City that took me about 45 minutes to climb.
I went under the gate into Mill Creek Campground and immediately started going down hill.  I didn’t like this because I knew I would have  to climb back up the hill in the morning.  I had forgotten to fill  my water bottles and I wanted to get to a water source so I kept going downhill.  The hill kept going down for 2 miles before I reached the campsites.  I filled up my water bottles at a spigot.
I tucked my tent back into a campsite so I wouldn’t be visible from the road.  I had to move a picnic table a little bit to setup my tent.  I had beans and rice for dinner.  After dinner I looked outside my tent and there were hundreds of centipedes right outside my tent door.  There were too many to kill.
At night the Redwood trees made a lot of noise.  The wind was blowing the treetops but it was calm at my tent.  I heard leaves and branches falling through the trees all night.  I had no cell reception and no one knew where I was.  It was scary.
