Day 13 - 56 km

We woke up at 9 ad I felt refreshed having slept in real bed.  We did laundry, showered, ate eggs fresh from the chickens in the backyard and hung out with Avalon in the morning.  We went to the medical clinic at 1:30pm.  They told Paul that since he wasn’t a Canadian citizen his health care expenses would not be covered.  They said it would be $500 just to be seen.  Paul stared to digging into his cash and counting out $500 on the counter.
I said, “Paul, don’t pay this lady $500 just to get looked at.  That’s ridiculous, its not worth it.  Just start wearing socks!”
Paul said, “You know what, you’re right. Thanks for being the voice of reason.”  Paul ended up buying some socks and calamine lotion at the local grocery store.  Kosuke and I bought some rum and Coke.  Then we went to the bakery where Avalon works and got some pastries.
Kosuke and I had a drink while we got ready to leave.  We packed up and wrote a thank you note for Tristan and Avalon.  We left Haines Junction at 4pm.
Kosuke and I were a little bit lethargic on our bikes as we had drank rum.  There was light rain.
I contacted our hosts in Whitehorse, the Battersby’s, who I found through people in church.
We camped in a gravel pit near the road.  We wrapped up our food in my trailer and left it on the other side of the road and luckily no animals got into it.  We had a good laugh with Kosuke when we were packing our food into the bear bag.  He told us that he packed all of his meals into the bear bag and I told him that we should hope that a bear doesn't come because otherwise we'd have no food left.
He said “Oh, it's okay, I have snacks.”
Paul and I asked what he meant because we had just put all our food in the bear bag.
Kosuke said, “Well I put on my meals in there but I still have snacks.”
We all laughed at misunderstanding and then we put his food they put inside the bear bag.
