Total odometer 737 mi. We set our clocks forward one hour and I woke up at 8:45 am, Canada time, at Edith Creek. The sun was out while I cooked breakfast and we packed up camp. We rode through hilly areas and across the Donjek River.
We met a cyclist named Craig who was riding from Florida to Alaska. He was almost finished with his trip. He carried a lot of gear including rock climbing equipment. He warned us of bears ahead of us on the road for the next two weeks of riding. We rode over rough pavement and hills with a 10-15 mph headwind.
We met two cyclists, a man from France and a woman from Montana, riding together. They gave us a tip that we could camp on a wooden gazebo in Destruction Bay across from a gas station.
At Burwash Landing, I checked to see if I could find Paul and Kosuke but they had not stopped. About 10 miles later I reached Destruction Bay and found Paul and Kosuke. I bought a calling card because my cell phone had no service and my debit card wasn’t working in the pay phone. I called Tristian, the CouchSurfing.com host in Haines Junction and left a message that we were on our way.
We found the gazebo and camped in it. It was nice to have a roof over us because there were rain clouds all around us.
Paul and I ate macaroni and cheese for dinner. We’re somewhat low on food but we can make it to Whitehorse.
